Preaching
SHALOM has a group of young preachers with the responsibility to evangelize through preaching. These preachers have heard God’s call to this ministry, which is why they devote their life, time and knowledge in preaching the Word of God. They are well prepared for they receive basic faith formation, take workshops in personal development, theological matters, fundamentals of our faith, Christian living, and spirituality. Because this ministry is missionary we are able to preach at other communities. OBJECTIVE: Carry out the message of peace, salvation, and hope to those that don’t know God yet. “I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is going to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: Preach the message, be ready whether it is convenient or not, reprove, rebuke, exhort with complete patience and instruction”. 2 Timothy 4, 1-2
Worship
This ministry came together on August 2000 when the Grupo de Jovenes Shalom started off in the parish of St. Mary. At first there were only 2 members in the choir, and now, by the grace of God, our members have increased. This ministry of worship prays in a different way, for it is said, “singing is praying twice”. We preach through music at events such as our general weekly gatherings, retreats, evenings of worship, also by participating during the Eucharist at Quinceñeras and weddings.
Prayer
Coordinator: Joel Santillan
In SHALOM we have discovered the power of God through prayer. God has touched and changed our lives in a very special way. In this part of the page we want to ask you share your needs with us, would you like us to pray for you? Are you facing problems? We want to unite our prayers to yours and ask God for all your needs.
We also fast, pray rosaries, participate in the Eucharistic celebration, praying and putting our trust in God, so that He answer our prayers. We gather in our parish before the Blessed Sacrament each second day of the month.
Married Couples
Coordinator: Inocencio Lopez
After noticing the presence of many young couples, SHALOM faced the need to start a ministry for the married couples. The main reason was that while a married couple would identify themselves with the youth group, the topics rarely covered their needs as a couple. It was during April 2005, that the Ministry of Married Couples was officially announced as the new branch of SHALOM. The activities and prayer of the ministry are to create and sustain a great relationship between couples based on communication and respect. This ministry also focuses on helping couples create a strong marriage and face problems with the help of God. If you are a young newlywed couple, have been married for a couple of years, or if you are not married yet but want to strengthen your relationship, you are welcome to join us. OBJECTIVE: To motivate young couples to live a sacramental life. “MAY GOD BLESS YOUR HOME, FAMILY, AND RELATIONSHIP.”
Children
Coordinators: Victor and Berta Perez
We believe that if we teach our children to be familiar with God when they are young, they will have a better concept of Who God is and what He wants from us. Here, the children are taught to read the Word of God, to pray, sing, and do various activities to help them understand God, everything is done according to their age.
Teatro
Coordinador: Dagoberto Mendez
The mission of this ministry is to portray through theater performance the life of Jesus Christ, of the Saints and everything that may help evangelize our society. Also, to point out some problems that may be affecting our community negatively.
Public Relations
Our Public Relations ministry is in charge of managing communication between the community of Saint Mary and neighboring communities about the existence and activities programmed by SHALOM. They get the message across through flyers, making announcements in Mass, invitations, shirts with our logo, and through the Internet.
Hospitality
Everyone is welcome in the SHALOM family. The ministry of Hospitality is in charge of welcoming new people to our gatherings on Thursdays, and at retreats or activities that we hold throughout the year. Our objective is to have everyone feel secure, to have them feel accepted and comfortable in their new family. This committee has found that a single smile, friendly handshake or hug can transform a sad, tired, angry, or bored face to happy face. This is due to that fact that they have felt GOD’S LOVE in their life, and therefore they want to share it with everyone else.
Library
This is the SHALOM library, where you will be able to find all types of books that will help you get to know the life of our Lord Jesus Christ better, the lives of saints, self improvement books, and books that will help you dig deeper into the spiritual life. We also have books that help us to understand our Church and our Catholic Faith. With this library our goal is to put our grain of sand in the Kingdom of God, spiritually enriching people like YOU through Literature.
